Spirit of Giving Photos 2016

During the months of November and December 2016, the FBI Jacksonville Citizens Academy Alumni Association (FBIJCAAA) chapter participated in the Spirit of Giving campaign by collectively purchasing 21 wreaths from Wreaths Across America (WAA) in support of their annual National Wreaths Across America Day which occurred this year on 12/17/2016.  WAA is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization who operates with the following mission, “Remember our fallen U.S. veterans. Honor those who serve. Teach your children the value of freedom.”  On their 2016 National Wreaths Across America Day, WAA coordinated the delivery of 1.2 million holiday wreaths to 1,228 memorial sites throughout the United States. A meaningful ceremony was held at each of the cemeteries that included the Pledge of Allegiance, the live singing of the National Anthem, an invocation by a military Chaplain, a full minute of silence to remember the fallen, the Prisoners of War, the Missing in Action, and to honor those who have served and are serving this great nation. After the ceremony, volunteers placed the wreaths on the tombstones of our nation’s heroes’ grave sites while saying the veterans’ name aloud. We had a few volunteers from our chapter attend the Wreath Laying Ceremony in Jacksonville, FL and the volunteers were grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful event to remember and honor our nation’s veterans during the holiday season. The WAA’s Wreath Laying Ceremony has been happening at Jacksonville National Cemetery (JNC) since 2009. As of 11/1/2016, JNC has 11,525 persons interred there and is ranked 27 out of 135 national cemeteries. It is a beautiful and peaceful place and if you have the opportunity to visit it is highly recommended.
